One Day At A Time is delightful, insightful, thought provoking, powerful and entertaining

Rita Moreno and Justina Machado reading script from Norman Lear show produced by Netflix ©Mario J. Novoa # netflix 's  # OneDayAtATime  is delightful, insightful, thought provoking, powerful and entertaining...covering a spectrum of the  # LatinX  American experience. When I first heard about the show I was skeptical, but now that I've experienced it, I highly recommend it.  On a side note, this drone was shooting footage which captured some cool shots and Rita's improvisational humor.  I  had a chance to hear  # RitaMoreno  and  # JustinaMachado  at the  # NALIP  Media Summit this past summer, and enjoyed listening to their banter about the making of the show.  A much needed show in an era of polarizing extremes, this show gives us humor and hope. # Love. Hoping for season 2 @TheRitaMoreno @JustinaMachado  # bingeworthy  #netflix @nalip_org.  @onedayatatimecomedy...

When Tezuka Osamu met Walt Disney

Image
“I admire Walt Disney, I am charmed by Walt Disney, and I decided my career inspired by Walt Disney. And I met him in New York, or, I should say, I just walked past him. On the opening day of New York World’s Fair,  https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/entity/m01vl17?categoryId=artist I was lucky enough to get a chance to talk to him. I came across him leaving the stage just after delivering the speech.  I got nervous but somehow introduced myself to him.    ‘I am a head of a Japanese animation studio.’ ‘Nice to have you here.’ ‘I am the one who made Astro Boy.’ ‘Really? I know Astro Boy. I saw the work in Los Angeles. It’s a great work.” ‘Thank you very much. My staff would be honored. Well, may I have your comment about the work?’ ‘It’s a very interesting Sci-Fi story. Future children are looking toward the space. So I, myself, think about making Sci Fi, too.  If you have time, visit me in Burbank.’  ...

Obi-Wan & Saw Gerrera Returns in Star Wars Rebels

Image
via Gizmodo Obi-Wan has been on Rebels before, but as his younger incarnation, portrayed in the films by Ewan McGregor. This is the first time the Alec Guinness-era version of Kenobi will appear in animation. And the reason for his debut is almost as momentous: Darth Maul is finally going to get the rematch he’s been clamoring for since a much younger Kenobi cut his body in two at the end of The Phantom Menace . However, I’d imagine that fight won’t happen until the season finale later in the year. Before that, there’s a whole lot of other great stuff going on: Sabine seems to be embracing the Force a bit, rocking the Darksaber and trying to recruit her fellow Mandalorians; Mon Mothma makes an appearance, along with fellow Rebel leader General Dodonna; the TIE Defender is finally here; Thrawn and Tarkin still seem to have a big part to play; and, of course, what is Ezra’s connection with Kenobi and his warning? What isn’t here in this trailer is any hint that we’ll see ...

Star Wars | See Episodes I-III with clearer eyes

Image
Now that Star Wars is back, maybe it’s possible to see Episodes I-III with clearer eyes. The allegory was undercooked, but there’s a way of reading Episode III in particular as George Lucas’s response to the Bush era, overflowing with incoherent yet tantalizing ideas about how fascism arises from democracy. Rogue One looks, from the outside, like the anti- Phantom Menace : fewer Jedi, less politics, more guns, more actual wars than stars.  http://www.ew.com/article/2016/12/12/star-wars-rogue-one-prequels

George Lucas & Steven Spielberg through the years | Getty Images

Embed from Getty Images George Lucas & Steven Spielberg, "through the years", a slideshow I created using Getty Images. As a fan of these two famous filmmakers, I realized how far these guys have come, working together almost 40 years. They've maintained their friendship and collaboration an industry known for messy, drawn out disagreements. What do you think their secret is to maintaining such a strong partnership?
