Coming into your own as human being, man or woman, is a difficult process and such is the journey of every creative person I've ever met. Art Jackson, producer of Underground Masterpiece, talks about his own life and musical aspirations. In the scope of creating his "masterpiece", he rediscovered the process of being a Latin Jazz aficionado and collaborator. While many of us shy away from our roots, Art Jackson tells us how his family influenced his journey into music.

I became obsessed with film scorers at the age of 10, around the same time I knew I wanted to be a film director. Some of my first vinyl soundtrack purchases were ones that John Williams had composed. The first soundtrack I purchased was Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom. I was already a huge fan of the film when it came out, but I was completely riveted by the music. Learning how to play the clarinet a year or two before that, helped my understand music in a different way. In this clip Steven Spielberg and John Williams talk about film music and their collaboration.

Several years ago I was honored to work on a documentary featuring U.S. veterans and their families, and their struggles after returning home from combat. It was an enlightening experience and gave me a chance to reflect on the commitment and sacrifice soldiers make when enlisting in the military. Please enjoy this 20 min doc. When we look at the film business, studios films, blockbusters, we notice the barrage of these films start to look and feel the same. Filmmakers come in and produce these properties for the financiers, but I think something gets lost between the writer and director. I don't think it is intentional, but the perception is that there might be too many cooks in the kitchen. With multi-million dollar productions on the line, it is hard not to make movies without so much input. You have to maximize the potential of the film, but what's lost in the process? How much of the film belongs to the director's vision? How much of it is the studio's? We collaborate with creative people, because we trust their creative vision. Does this vision get muddied in the studio wold? Listen to George Lucas as he describes the studio world he walked into as a young filmmaker.

Watching behind-the-scenes promos are what prompted me to become a filmmaker. I enjoy hearing the process by which the actors were able to achieve certain performances, or the lighting techniques of cinematographers, or just hearing a director yell, "action"! Take a look at the process and making of Christopher Nolan's Interstellar.
