The Spielberg Touchscreen Outtakes 1 by Ken Provencher

"The Spielberg Touchscreen" originally considered "touch" as the final stage of a process whereby characters first apprehend objects of interest, then gesture towards them, then, if possible, touch them. Charting this three-stage process proved too unwieldy for one essay, so many clips were dropped.
Here I've collected these moments of gesture. In these clips, we see more of the characters' faces and bodies than in "The Spielberg Touchscreen." Sometimes wildly gesticulating, characters serve as Spielberg's surrogates, directing the attention of some other character, and of the film's audience. As a performance technique, indicating finds little praise in critical assessments, and yet it helps to draw us further into Spielberg's mise-en-scene.
