The Style: The Making of L.A. A Queer History Pt.2

Image
The Style: The Making of L.A. A Queer History Pt.2 by Mario J. Novoa Director of L.A. A Queer History, Gregorio Davila, has been an artist for a long time. He comes to film by way of art and music, and has created quite a body of work as a multimedia artist. Gregorio at heart, is a creator and storyteller. It was a culmination of painting, mixing music and film editing that brought him to direct L.A. A Queer History. Taking all that he is and all that he has learned, he has assembled a film that will have it's presence known in early 2015. With style and intrigue, L.A. A Queer History will take people on a journey to uncover the beautiful and ugly past of Los Angeles history. What intrigued me about Gregorio, was Gregorio's visual style. I first met Gregorio via a film I produced, "Gay Latino Los Angeles: Coming of Age", where he was editing a trailer for the film. When I viewed the trailer he created, I was elated to meet such a talented filmmaker. As I go...

The Baby Cries - The ABC's of Producing

Image
There are many reasons why directors should handle their "business", but not many know how. Most directors just want to direct and want to find their "savior" in their producers. It has taken me several books, documentaries, schools (The Los Angeles Film School's Producing Program and Full Sail University's Internet Marketing Program), film organizations (Film Independent) and countless conversations with colleagues, to get closer to making my films a reality as a producer and a director. On  The Baby Cries  I wore both hats, but collaborated with producer Kristen Wair during various stages of production. Handling a lot of the business in development and pre-production, gave me time to flesh out logistics, budgets and schedules. Strictly managing my own personal schedule also gave me an opportunity to prepare my work as a director. It was this balance that became crucial to making The Baby Cries (an original short film comedy). Art, business and collabor...

It all culminates into one beautiful composition of experience, motivation and purpose. This is the way great dreams are born into the world". http://storychicago.com/updates/how-tragedy-fuels-art

Follow Your Bliss

Image
‎"If you do follow your bliss, you put yourself on a track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open doors to you. I say follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be." Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth, with Bill Moyers The Baby Cries seemed like an impossible dream, but it was made by a happy collaborative bunch. -Mario J. Novoa Writer, Director

Keep It Simple: Threadless.com

“Keep It Simple” is always the best philosophy when it comes to offering people choices, and I think that threadlress.com delivers simplicity of navigation. This site showcases talent in such a way that you are automatically drawn into the product as opposed to an over thought website using sophisticated methods to heighten brand. When browsing for shirts primarily you offered sizes, gender-based products, price options and artists’ showcased work. It is easy to navigate through the pages and select what appeals to you. The use of the shopping cart as a smiling icon was very entertaining and innovative. I appreciated the site’s experience and entertainment factor, it made shopping very easy.  www.threadless.com
